QND Invitational

September 16, 2009
By Joey Dion of Illini West High School

Today the Illini West Cross Country team travelled to Quincy for the QND Invitational.  The weather was warm and humid compared to last years meet.  Our runners all ran a hard race and many bettered their times.  Tonight was a night more about mental winning.  Sometimes the times or places may not be good but the mental aspect of how well they did is better for them. Part way through the boys race I had a camera malfunction.  I was unable to get the boys runners finishing the race.

The girls were led by Natalie Northup.  Natalie was able to beat 2 runners who have beaten her already this year.  She never gave up and out kicked one of them to the finish.  Natalie placed 11th with a time of 21:44.  Lindsay Beach ran a hard race and did well tonight on the hilly course.  Lindsay placed 33rd with a time of 22:57.  Both Natalie and Lindsay medalled for the meet.  Rachel Bavery continues to improve each meet.  She continues to push herself to beat other runners.  Rachel placed 59th with a time of 24:21.  Hannah Dorothy is also improving.  Hannah is running with shin splints in both legs but continues to push herself.  She placed 92nd with a time of 29:18.  Nicole Blythe is trying her best to run on an ankle she sprained severly last year and again at the first of the season.  Nicole placed 105th with a time of 32:22.  The girls team placed 12th for the meet.

The boys ran with only 4 runners again tonight.  This kept them out of the team scoring.  Alex Gold ran his hardest race of the year tonight.  Alex was pushed by another runner who went to Illini West last year and now runs for another team  Alex hung in their with him most of the meet but faded at the end.  Alex placed 48th with a time of 19:17.  Craig Corzatt was our next finisher.  Craig ran a good race and placed 67th with a time of 20:07.  Jon Tobias was our next runner in and ran 50 seconds faster this year than last year.  Jon placed 70th with a time of 20:17.  John Brewer was our last finisher with a place of 100th and a time of 21:51.

Our next meet will be Thursday in Ft. Madison.
