Round 2: SVHS vs. the Indians of Winnebago

November 5, 2009
Stillman Valley High School

"It is not a myth that playoff practices around here are at a whole different level. If we play on Saturday like we've practiced this week, we'll be one of the eight remaining teams in 3A."

Assistant Coach Scott Rempfer

This week the Cardinal football team takes on one of their conference nemeses, the Winnebago Indians here @ home.  SVHS defeated Christian Life last Saturday and the Indians of Winnebago defeated Aurora Christian to advance to the 2nd round of post season play. Now they meet face-to-face again.

The Cards just finished playing Winnebago three weeks ago in one of their final games of season play. Though Winnebago's offense started the game well, it did not last long and the Cards took total control of the game, dominating the Indians 40-7. However, the first time the Cards played Winnebago, the Indians were missing key players due to injuries. These players are now back in the starting line-up, and Winnebago's play has improved. This is a concern for Head Coach Mike Lalor:

"I am very concerned about our game this week. The first time we met Winnebago in Conference play, they were coming off some very key injuries and were not at full strength. They are now healthy, and look like a much different team. We will have to play a very physical, mistake-free game to compete with them. Winnebago has developed into a very good football team over the last several weeks."

Coach Lalor has a good point. The Indians matched up very well against Aurora Christian last week, and dominated the entire football game. The Indians played well, carrying out their strategic play effectively against Aurora.

The good news is that our guys have been practicing at a whole new level for post-season play, and are being well-prepared for the match-up this Saturday @ 1:00 p.m. thanks to our great coaching staff. There is no doubt that the team will be ready for this conference match-up. Without doubt, our guys are more than eager to strike at the heart of the Indians and eliminate them from post-season play.

Come out this Saturday and support our Cards! They play @ 1:00 p.m. here at SVHS.

Wear red and black in support of our team!

Go Cardinals!
